Since 2009, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has been awarding the Green Talents Award to 25 young international scientists every year. The DLR thus promotes the international exchange of innovative, green ideas from various research fields. This award recognises outstanding achievements in improving the sustainability of our society.

This year, mc Group’s PR unit was once again responsible for worldwide public relations services for the Green Talents Award. This included the translation of the press releases into the national languages, the worldwide distribution (especially in the BRICS countries) of the press release, the adaptation of the competition trailer and a Twitter promotion to increase the impressions.

This year’s winners come from Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Ghana, Nigeria, India, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Serbia, Australia, China, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Pakistan, Brazil and Israel. With prize winners from Malawi, Madagascar and Benin, the three countries were on the list of winners for the first time this year.

This year, a renowned jury of German experts from science and industry selected 25 winners from a total of 589 applications. The scientists’ topics include sustainable adaptation strategies in agroforestry, better access to drinking water, energy revolution as a way to mitigate climate change and the development of new anti-parasitic drugs made from toxic substances.

Due to the corona pandemic, the award ceremony did not take place in Berlin as usual, but virtually. The winners were honoured digitally and were able to introduce themselves and their project in more detail. The Science Forum, at which the young scientists travel through Germany and visit research institutes to exchange ideas with German experts, also took place exclusively in digital form this time.
