Climate protection 2.0: Launch of the „Click a tree“ campaign
Viral spots about the promotion are available on YouTube and MySpace
The European Commission has tasked MC with the complete organisation of the pan-European campaign „Click a tree“. The campaign raises awareness among young people in the EU member states – especially in Eastern Europe – about climate protection. The project budget amounts to 414.000 Euro.
The campaign’s website, www.clickatree.europa.eu, is at its core. MC conceptualised and programmed the site, which is available in ten languages. Since June 2009, EU citizens aged between 14 and 29 years have been registering on this central platform. The first 5.000 participants will receive a seedling which they may plant anywhere in Europe. With an uploaded photo of the planted tree and its placement on a virtual map on the website, the young environmentalists encourage other internet users to participate. An additional incentive to take part in the planting promotion is that the ten most successful entrants will win a trip to an environmental camp. The closing date is 15th November 2009. In the first four weeks after its kick-off the campaign already garnered great interest among young Europeans: More than 2.000 applicants have already registered on the website.
In addition to the design and programming of the website, MC also produced two humourous viral spots that have been aired in six Eastern European countries and are available on the video platform MCTubeTV. Since July, the integrated communication agency has been showcasing the most recent, exciting and funniest footage produced by MC TV and Film Production on www.youtube.com/MCTubeTV. In order to expand the coverage of the campaign even further MEDIA CONSULTA established a cooperation with the social community MySpace. At www.myspace.de/clickatree you can find information about the campaign as well as the two videos “Go for a walk” and “Hit a tree” plus various wallpapers for download.
