Citizens festival for the 60th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany
An event organised by MEDIA CONSULTA for the German government at the Brandenburg Gate
On May 23rd, the Federal Republic of Germany turned 60; MEDIA CONSULTA (MC) organised the big birthday party in Berlin: All citizens were invited to celebrate this event together at the Brandenburg Gate as well as at the boulevard Straße des 17. Juni. Among others, the following celebrities joined the festival: Thomas Gottschalk, Otto, Mario Adorf, Iris Berben and PUR.
With a blend of information, culture, music and entertainment, a varied agenda was arranged. Additional to the overall concept and entire communication, the lead agency for the Federal Republic was responsible for the organisation and implementation of the major event in Germany’s capital. On a double platform at the Brandenburg Gate, musicians and bands such as Udo Jürgens, PUR, Otto & Die Friesenjungs and The BossHoss heated up the atmosphere between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. In the afternoon, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy“ was performed by Berlin’s State Orchestra under direction of Daniel Barenboim and sung by the choir of the Berlin State Opera with famous soloists.
In different thematic blocks, Thomas Gottschalk, Sandra Maischberger and Katrin Müller-Hohenstein talked to renowned personalities that have influenced Germany since 1949. At the Academy of the Arts at the Pariser Platz, Iris Radisch and Ulrich Wickert presented readings and discussions with authors, actors and historians as Uwe Tellkamp, Julia Franck, Julia Schoch, Ingo Schulze and Uwe Timm. Furthermore, the agenda included readings with Ulrich Matthes, Nina Hoss, Iris Berben and Mario Adorf. Along the festival district at the boulevard Straße des 17. Juni, all Federal Ministries, the Federal Parliament, the Federal Council, the Federal Constitutional Court, all 16 Federal States as well as social and corporate organisations showcased themselves. Our European neighbours also attended the birthday party. All in all, more than 80 institutions presented themselves over a stretch measuring more than 1.2 kilometres. Along the whole area visitors could buy food for moderate prices.
Next to the open day of the Federal Government, the citizens festival for the 60th anniversary is one of the highlights of the Federal Government which MC plans and organises this year. Since 2007, MC has been responsible for the communication and event organisation for the Press and Information Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.
